This week, a new programmer has joined the Prey team, he is Tom Pytel. He is the replacement of Mark Dochtermann. I'm guessing that Tom Pytel is going to be a general game programmer. That means that there is still one more open slot for network programmer.
Here are some quotes from the updated Prey page at 3D Realms.
"At this moment, we've just bid farewell to Gary McTaggart from 3DFX, who was on-site, helping us get our engine talking to their Voodoo chip." [Just like I said 3 days ago :)]
"[the engine]...which utilizes Portal Technology (PT)" [It goes ahead and says that PT doesn't have the limitations that BSP engines have]
"16-bit color" [that says it all]
A little hint at the storyline:
" A new main character has been developed--he's a full-blooded Apache with an attitude. The story is all new, and involves the Trocara, a trinity of alien species who are kept (somewhat) in check by the mysterious Keepers."
"Look for more updates and some screen shots in a few weeks." [Good news!]
Due to all of this, I'm going through the whole site updating where needed. If you want to see the new screenshots of Preditor, the level editor for Prey, go to the screenshots page.

Today, 3D Realms has updated their Prey page, taking out all of the false, out of date information, and replacing it with all new. To see it all click here.
3D Realms announced that the level editor used to make Prey is called, "Preditor". Along with this, they released two screenshots of the working editor.
I'll get them up here...I'm just getting the news out...

George Broussard stopped by IRC a few times in the last few days. Get the logs here and here. Here is what he had to say about Prey:
<GeorgB3DR> Nuke: 3DFX guys are here today putting support into Prey. We had is about a year ago to
<NukeDukem> Will Prey be like a continuous environment like Unreal's?
<GeorgB3DR> Nuke: Not sure. Don't think a continuous environment is good for DMatch
<NukeDukem> George - What is it that has to be done in Prey that will take another whole year?
<GeorgB3DR> Nuke: Um, making all the art, levels, weapons, characters and game? :)
<D_Nukem> George: How about releasing a screenshot or two showing off that editor of Prey's?
<GeorgB3DR> DNukem: In time. Not ready yet..
On the 21st of January, some members of 3DFX, a 3D Graphics card supported by Prey, were at 3D Realms adding that support. 3D Realms announced that 3DFX would one of the cards supported about a year ago.
Yesterday, George Broussard announced that Prey's level editor is finished and the team has started creating levels with it. When I asked if anything can be shown to the public, like screenshots of the editor, George responded by saying it's too early to release anything.
"Editor is working and we can make levels." - George Broussard

Added The Prey Ground to the Prey Links.
Nothing else new with Prey, George Broussard hasn't been visiting IRC as much. I am still expecting some new news from 3D Realms this month or next month.

New Year - 1997
The page is about nine months old now, but Prey is still at least another year away. Things to look forward to this year: New screenshots, more development information, 3D Realms' other games(Shadow Warrior and Blood). I expect things to pick up with Prey this year as 3D Realms gets it moving along. Expect the weekly updates to start up again this month to keep us on top of Prey development!
